Love Story

I generally don't write movie reviews, or should I say I haven't reviewed a movie on any social platform till date. This is going to be first one and also a special one.

Sekhar kammula comes up with good story oriented movies, and the female lead had taken the focus in his previous works which I had seen.
His latest directed movie ' Love story ', had both the male and female leads in a very fresh and true elements.

The way he showcased the emotions of the hero when he gets kissed by his love, a small tear drop rolling down from the corner of his eye, you can instantly connect to that. And again he gets teary eyed with rush of emotions when the heroine gives him a peck on his cheek in a busy metro train. I haven't seen such potryal of emotions of a male lead in any of the Hollywood, Bollywood or any other kind of language movie till date.

I was recently pondering about what reasons will the men/man could have to commit the sexual crimes against the opposite/same gender person. And it appeared the main reason was pent-up unhealthy emotions.
The false ego which needs to be pumped up with negative emotions like anger and rage.

It isn't that males are devoid of the positive emotions, the loving and nurturing kind. We can easily find that emotions amongst the men of our family, friends.
But the patriarchal society that we live in, forbids men from showcasing their weaker side to the society. You can always hear that, ' Pump up, Be a man, Don't behave like a girl, Are you even a Man?' insults thrown at men who deny suppressing their true emotions.
Such taunts, and ill-treatment is often metted out by their own group of friends/family.

Sexual crimes against women and also men are done by those men who are afraid to face their real emotions. Their inefficiencies they try to deny and cover up by showing their rage, force, power over those who can't fight back or retort.

Only if it was normal for males to accept their weakness and also the emotions that has got nothing to do with their strength, the society can see good days. Where women, men and children are safe in each others prescence.
Otherwise these unexpressed and suppressed emotions will bring torment in the lives of the the one who is assaulted and also the one who committed that assault.

Let's hope with changing times men are more free to express their real emotions. It's not only women but also men who need liberation from the age old conditioning of the genders, that no more serves any good to our society.

  1. A dark subject was beautifully handled by Shekhar. He is a true genius I can say!

Sai Pallavi has given her best in this movie. Some scenes where she gets scared of boarding NC's bike, eating chocolate offered by him didn't make sense until we knew the past. Its a good screenplay which connected the dots so well!

BTW, amazing review...now you are giving the movie reviewers a run for their money 😜
